Well, it did not take long. QB Geno Smith was finally benched after cementing his name in the Jets' history books as the only Gang Green quarterback who finished a game with a zero QB rating. QB Michael Vick, whom the Jets signed in the offseason to supposedly fight for the starting job, will start next game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Smith started yesterday against the Bills and was yanked after just four series in the first quarter, as he threw 3 interceptions and just 2 completions. Vick also committed three turnovers, 2 fumbles and an interception, but at least he provided some spark and was able to move the team down the field. QB Matt Simms, who is the team's third quarterback, might get his chance as well if Vick fails to deliver.
Smith was expected to step up this season after throwing just 12 touchdowns and 21 interceptions in his rookie season. Instead, his play pretty much remained the same, filled with the same mistakes that he was making last year and accompanied by a plethora of turnovers.
In case you haven't seen this yet, here's Mike Francesa' rant on the current state of the New York Jets:
