The New York Jets have trimmed their roster down to 53 players, as they released 22 players to make today's roster cutdown deadline. QB Greg McElroy, a former 7th round draft pick who started one game last season, was the biggest name on the list. The Jets chose to keep four quarterbacks on the roster, but the outspoken McEloy, who missed last preseason game due to an injury, did not make the cut.
RB Michael Goodson, who was signed to battle for the starting running back spot but ended up being suspended for the first three games, was put on the reserve/suspended list.
DL Antonio Garay, another offseason acquisition, was among the cuts as well. Garay, a former Charger, was brought in to improve the rush up the middle, but the emergence of DL Damon Harrison made him expendable.
Here are the rest of the cuts:
RB - Mossis Madu
WR - Michael Campbell, Mohamed Massaquoi, Ben Obomanu, Zach Rogers
TE - Chris Pantale
OL - Erik Cook, J.B. Shugarts, Jason Smith
DL - Junior Aumavae, Lanier Coleman, Tevita Finau, Antonio Garay
LB - Troy Davis, JoJo Dickson, Jacquies Smith
DB - Royce Adams, Mike Edwards, Rontez Miles
PK - Dan Carpenter
