The New York Jets have announced that QB Matt Simms will start the final preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles. QB Greg McElroy is listed "day-to-day" with an ankle injury and will not play at all. The Gang Green signed QB Graham Harrell, formerly of the Green Bay Packers, to back up Simms in the preseason finale.
Simms impressed in the last preseason game against the New York Giants, completing 6 of 10 passes for 120 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT. If Simms does not make any big mistakes tomorrow, the third quarterback spot might be his for the taking.
Graham was just 2 of 4 for 20 yards last season. This preseason, he finished 23-for-42 passes for 169 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in three games before being let go by the Packers.
The Jets also released PK Billy Cundiff, who scored the game winner against the Giants, and signed PK Dan Carpenter. Carpenter was signed 4 days ago by the Cardinals to compete with former Jets PK Jay Feely but was released after having his only field goal attempt blocked. Now he has one preseason game to win the Jets' job against PK Nick Folk.
