The New York Jets signed WR Mohamed Massaquoi, who was released earlier this week by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Massaquoi is a 5-year veteran who spent his entire career with the Cleveland Browns before signing a 2-year deal with the Jaguars as a free agent. During his tenure with the Browns Massaquoi caught 118 passes for 1,745 yards, 7 TDs.
Last year Massaquoi played in 9 games, starting in 5 of them. He made just 17 catches for 254 yards as he battled a hamstring injury for a most of the season. The Browns placed him on injured reserve on December 25, 2012.
The Jets are pretty thin at wide receiver, especially considering that WR Santonio Holmes' status is uncertain at this point. Second year WR Stephen Hill is expected to start. WR Jeremy Kerley is projected to start as well if Holmes is out. Then there's WR Braylon Edwards, who had a decent preseason, and WR Clyde Gates, who's very fast and saw plenty of action as a kickoff returner in preseason. Massaquoi, if healthy, should be able to battle it out for #4 or #5 spot at wide receiver.
