OLB Quinton Coples, arguably the best Jets' pass-rusher, who suffered an injury last night against the Jacksonville Jaguars, will undergo a medical procedure on Tuesday. According to the announcement made by the team, Coples will miss the rest of preseason and is out indefinitely. An earlier report indicated that Coples had hairline fracture in his ankle and would miss 3-4 weeks.
This is a pretty big loss for the Jets who have struggled to pressure the quarterback in recent seasons. The Gang Green drafted Coples at #16 overall last year, and he played defensive end as a rookie. He recorded 5.5 sacks in his rookie season and started in two games. This year, the team moved him to the rush outside linebacker spot in their 3-4 defense, although Coples seemed to struggle adjusting to the new position in preseason.
While Coples is out, OLB Antwan Barnes is expected to replace him in the starting lineup.
