It took a few days but the New York Jets have finally signed a free agent early Friday. Former Raiders RB Mike Goodson signed a 3-year deal worth $6.9M with the Gang Green to possibly replace departed RB Shonn Greene as the Jets' starting running back. Goodson, a former 4th round pick of the Carolina Panthers, was traded to the Oakland Raiders last offseason and ran for 6.3 yards a carry on 35 attempts last year. He started in 3 games in 2010 for the Panthers, replacing injured DeAngelo Williams.
The Jets are also trying to sign OLB Antwan Barnes, a 7-year veteran who spent last three seasons with the San Diego Chargers. Barnes, 28, had a good season in 2011 when he registered 11.0 sacks and forced 2 fumbles. His production declined in 2012 - just 3.0 sacks.
TE Dustin Keller, meanwhile, signed a 1-year deal with the Miami Dolphins.
