Once a bust is always a bust. LB Aaron Maybin, a former Buffalo first round pick who was deemed a bust before signing with the New York Jets last season and leading the team with six sacks, was cut by the Gang Green earlier today. After seemingly redeeming himself last season, Maybin struggled immensely in this year's campaign, recording just one tackle in eight games. He was inactive on Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.
The Jets needed a roster spot to sign former Chicago Bears RB Kahlil Bell, according to a league source. Bell could play Sunday against the St. Louis Rams because of injuries to RB Bilal Powell (concussion) and RB Joe McKnight (high-ankle sprain).
Prior to this season the Jets signed Maybin to a one-year, $1.015M contract, when he was a restricted free agent. It included a $325,000 signing bonus and a $75,000 roster bonus.
The Gang Green also placed CB Isaiah Trufant on injured reserve. He suffered a season ending knee injury against the Seahawks.
