Today was another quiet day for the New York Jets, as one of the two players who were expected to visit them, S Brandon Merriweather, signed with the Washington Redskins and never made it to Florham Park. The other player was QB Drew Stanton, who did make it to the Jets training facility but did not receive an offer. He will have another meeting with the Jets tomorrow.
Tomorrow the Gang Green expect S Reggie Nelson and QB Brady Quinn. The former started all 16 games for the Bengals last season, making 85 tackles and picking off 4 passes. Nelson and Washington's S LaRon Landry are at the top of the Jets' list of candidates to fill in the void at safety. Quinn, a former first round draft pick, started in 12 NFL games, completing 66.8% of his passes, 10 TD, 9 INT. Quinn and Stanton are the favorites for the backup quarterback position. Although QB David Garrard, a former starter at Jacksonville, could still be a possibility.
The Jets are also looking to add to their receiving corps. WR Chaz Schilens is scheduled to visit tomorrow. The 49ers are also reportedly interested in Schilens. Former Jet WR Jerricho Cotchery could be brought back as well, but the Jets have no reason to rush there, as Cotchery doesn't seem to be getting a lot of interest from other teams.
