According to the New York Daily News, the Jets are meeting with free agent OLB Tully Banta-Cain today. Banta-Cain is an 8-year veteran who spent his career with the Patriots and 49ers. He was released by New England this summer. Banta-Cain passed a physical for the Raiders recently and is believed to be fully healed from off-season abdominal surgery. There are a few other teams interested in the 31-year-old free agent, who registered 14.5 sacks in his last 31 games.
The Jets, who had four sacks in the season opener against the Cowboys on Sunday night, are apparently interested in adding another pass rusher. Banta-Cain’s salary wouldn’t be guaranteed for the season if a team signs him now.
