According to several reports, S Eric Smith has agreed to terms on a 3-year deal with the New York Jets. Keeping Smith was very important for the Jets who already failed to secure the services of CB Nnamdi Asomugha and lost WR/KR Brad Smith, a very important special team player for the Gang Green. Special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff reached out to Eric Smith several times since the free-agency negotiating period opened.
Now the Jets will turn their attention to filling their needs at WR and CB. WR Braylon Edwards is still a possibility, but there are rumors that he might jet to the Miami Dolphins. Packers' WR James Jones has also been mentioned among possible acquisition targets. Eagles CB Asante Samuel will most likely be put on the trading block but his style does not suit well Rex Ryan's defense. Recently released CB Nate Clements is another possibility. Then, there's of course CB Antonio Cromartie who had an up and down 2010 season with the Jets.
