WR Braylon Edwards appeared in a Manhattan courtroom this morning and pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated. He will be fined $500, his license will be suspended for 6 months and he must continue to participate in the NFL's substance abuse program.
Edwards had a blood-alcohol content of 0.16, twice the legal limit, when he was pulled over in Manhattan Sept. 21, according to the criminal complaint. He was arrested and charged with two misdemeanor counts of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and one of operating a motor vehicle while impaired.
In addition to the fine and suspended license, the Jets wide receiver could also face a penalty under the league's substance-abuse policy, generally a fine for first-time offenders.
Edwards will be a free agent when the NFL and players ratify a new CBA. Although he had indicated he wants to re-sign with the Jets and would like to get a deal done in the early period when teams can re-sign their own free agents.
