According to several sources, the New York Jets released OG Alan Faneca, a 9-time Pro Bowler who joined the Gang Green in 2008 as a free agent. In 2008 Faneca signed a 5-year contract worth $40M, which included $21M in guaranteed money. His playing level noticeably degraded at the end of last season and the Jets obviously thought that his salary of $7.5M this season ($5.25M guaranteed) was a bit too much.
As we reported earlier today, the selection of OG Vladimir Ducasse added only more speculation regarding Faneca's future in New York. And now it appears that it took the Jets less than 4 hours to part ways with the Pro Bowler.
The Gang Green were reportedly trying to trade Faneca for draft picks, but apparently there were no takers.
