Future Hall of Famer, RB LaDainian Tomlinson, has agreed on a 2-year contract worth $5.2M with the New York Jets. This contract can escalate to $5.7M. He will replace RB Thomas Jones who was released by the Jets earlier this month and signed by the Chiefs.
Two years ago the Gang Green signed another future Hall of Famer, QB Brett Favre. It didn't exactly work out the way the Jets wanted, but they sure hope to have a better luck this time, as Tomlinson is not brought in to lead this offense. Tomlinson role will be mostly as a 3rd down back behind RB Shonn Greene and a screen pass option.
Tomlinson rushed for 1,110 and 730 yards the last two seasons, respectively, with per-carry averages of 3.8 and 3.3 - very unimpressive numbers by his standards. But the Jets are hoping that, in a reduced role behind probably the best offensive line in the league, some of the old LT magic will resurface.
Tomlinson will also reunite the offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, who was a Chargers assistant for four years when Tomlinson was there.
