The New York Jets suffered another heartbreaking loss this afternoon, as they fell to the Jacksonville Jaguars on a last-second field goal, 22-24. The Gang Green had their chances to win this game, but ultimately just failed to make plays when they had to.
New York took a 22-21 lead with around 5 minutes left in the final quarter. The defense that hadn't given up a single first down in the second half just needed to make one stop to basically seal the game for the Gang Green. They, however, gave up a 12-play 79-yard drive that resulted in the winning field goal.
This same defense, that came into the game being second best in the league, also gave up touchdowns on three of Jacksonville's four first half possessions (the fourth possession resulted in a missed field goal) and allowed conversions on 5 of 7 third downs.
QB Mark Sanchez threw an interception on the first play from scrimmage and was just 6 of 14 for 92 yards in the first half. He threw another interception in the second half, passing the ball right to a Jacksonville defender who was just a few yards away from him. The Jets rookie finished the contest with a dreadful quarterback rating of 59.3, completing 16 of 30, 212 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs.
The Jets have fallen to 4-5 and are below .500 for the first time this season. This 4-5 record has every chance to become a 4-6 next Sunday when the Jets travel to New England. Will we hear more trashtalking and promises from Rex Ryan's team next week again? Or maybe it's finally time to shut up and concentrate on playing football???
We'll have our full game review early tomorrow.
