The New York Jets have placed RB Leon Washington on the injured reserve list, which means that he's out for the remainder of the 2009 season. Washington suffered a compound fracture of his right tibia and fibula on his first and only carry in yesterday's game against the Oakland Raiders. Following the game, Washington underwent a 2-hour emergency surgery where a rod was placed in his tibia to stabilize the fracture. The fibula will heal on its own and the surgery was successful. He will remain in Oakland under doctors’ observation and he may return to New York as soon as Wednesday.
RB Shonn Greene replaced Washington in the lineup and ran for a career-high 144 yards on 19 carries and 2 touchdowns.
Head coach Rex Ryan has stated that the Jets might use RB/WR Danny Woodhead in the role that Leon Washington was utilized in.
