The New York Jets improved to 3-0 as they defeated the Tennessee Titans, 24-17, in what seemed like a roller coaster where the Gang Green made big plays when they needed them. The Jets are 3-0 for the first time since 2004 when they started the season 5-0 under head coach Herman Edwards.
The start of the game couldn't be any better for the Jets who quickly took a 14-0 lead. As the first half progressed, however, the tide began turning to the Titans' side. For the first time this season the heralded Rex Ryan's defense looked vulnerable, allowing long runs and letting Titan's QB Kerry Collins throw the ball at will.
The Titans took a 17-14 lead early in the second half and at that point it seemed that the Gang Green were heading to their first loss of the season, as QB Mark Sanchez & Co. could not produce anything on offense. Luckily, Titans' rookie Ryan Mouton came to the rescue, losing his second fumble of the game. The Jets quickly scored and then the defense came up with a big play when MLB David Harris intercepted a Collins' pass inside the Jets territory. Tennessee had another chance later but the Jets' defense came up big again as they did not allow Collins to complete a single pass in the final quarter.
Mark Sanchez is the first rookie quarterback to start and win his team's first three games of a season.
