The first week of the 2009 NFL season is over and the early betting lines for Week 2 are out. The New England Patriots are favored over the New York Jets by 5 points in what is going to be the first real test of Rex Ryan's team. Both teams won in Week 1, which means the winner of this contest will take the lead in AFC East. NT Kris Jenkins has already stated that the Gang Green are "going to be playing this game like it's the Super Bowl." Head coach Rex Ryan, meanwhile, stated that the Pats have the advantage at quarterback and head coach, but it remains to be seen who has the better team. Rex also challenged Jets fans to show up at the Meadowlands and do their part.
On the Patriots side, WR Randy Moss said, "I can remember Coach Ryan talking about he ain't coming to kiss no rings so I think it's gonna be a big game. ... I think we have our work cut out for us. The Jets defense has really picked up, they got that rookie quarterback in (Mark Sanchez) so it's gonna be a barnburner." Moss also thinks that Rex "really meant what he said and I think that he has a really good team backing him."
In other news, according to Jets Confidential, the Eagles are trying to trade WR Hank Baskett and the Jets might be interested. The Gang Green don't have a tall physical receiver, and Baskett, who is 6'4", 210 lbs, might fill the void. Baskett, 27, is a 4-year veteran who has spent his entire career in Philadelphia. He has caught 72 passes for 1,052 yards, 6 TD in 48 games for the Eagles. He's more known, however, for being married to former Playboy playmate Kendra Wilkinson.
UPDATE (4:25PM): Hank Baskett has been released by the Eagles to make room for Michael Vick.
