Later today, by 4pm to be precise, all NFL teams will be required to cut down their rosters sizes to 75 players. Then, the really big purge will come on September 5th, when all teams will be required to trim their rosters down to 53 players. The New York Jets currently have 75 players on their roster, so don't expect any cuts today. 22 players, however, will be gone before this week is over.
Yesterday head coach Rex Ryan basically confirmed that undrafted free agent LB Jamaal Westerman had locked a roster spot.
DE Mike DeVito, who suffered a hamstring injury against the Giants, will be held out Thursday against the Eagles but could play if it were a regular season game. DeVito said that he will definitely play against the Texans in Week 1.
Starters are expected to play just one series against Philadelphia, but suspended LB Calvin Pace will play more as he needs to get more work before starting to serve his 4-game suspension.
RB Shonn Greene returned to practice yesterday, but it's not certain whether he's going to play against the Eagles.
