While the battle between QB Mark Sanchez and QB Kellen Clemens is still going on, head coach Rex Ryan shed some light yesterday on when it could be over. Ryan said that the competition could be over before the preseason game against the New York Giants on August 29th. Neither quarterback has looked impressive thus far. Rookie Sanchez is obviously still learning the system, while experienced Clemens has been having an up and down training camp.
After claiming WR Aundrae Allison off waivers from the Vikings, the Jets released WR Mario Urrutia, a first year player from Louisville.
The New York Jets had a short practice session this morning in preparation for the full contact scrimmage scheduled for 6:00pm tonight.
OT D'Brickashaw Ferguson is beaming with confidence. In a recent interview he promised to make Pro Bowl this season. Ferguson, 25, was drafted at #4 overall in the 2006 NFL Draft and has started every game of his NFL career. He was seen as the cornerstone of the Jets' revamped offensive line back in 2006, but hasn't really lived up to the expectations thus far. Last season D'Brickashaw Ferguson allowed 4.0 sacks in 16 starts, which is less than 7.0 sacks allowed by LG Alan Faneca who went to Pro Bowl.
Sacks allowed by the Jets' O-line starters in 2008:
Player | Sacks |
LT D’Brickashaw Ferguson | 4.0 |
LG Alan Faneca | 7.0 |
C Nick Mangold | 2.0 |
RG Brandon Moore | 2.0 |
RT Damien Woody | 6.5 |
