The New York Jets didn't waste any time to claim former Vikings WR Aundrae Allison off waivers this afternoon. Allison, 25, is a 2-year veteran who was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 5th round of the 2007 NFL Draft.
Minnesota waived Allison yesterday after being unable to work out a trade for him. In two seasons with the Vikings Aundrae Allison caught 18 passes for a total of 231 yards, 0 TDs. In addition to his duties as a wide receiver, Allison also saw action as a punt and kickoff returner. He holds the record for the longest play in the Vikings' history with his 104-yard kickoff return against the Detroit Lions in 2007.
Allison has a reputation as an outstanding athlete with great speed. Unfortunately, he also has a reputation for having a lousy work ethic and a bit of an attitude problem, which most likely was the reason why Minnesota let him go.
The Jets definitely could use more speed at wide receiver, as right now they basically have only WR David Clowney with the ability to stretch the field.
