The New York Jets concluded their 3-day mini-camp on Thursday with a 2-hour practice session. The weather once again could have been better but the team nevertheless chose to practice outside to the delight of a few hundred fans.
The rain resulted in quite a few slips, but even as footing became better (the rain stopped after about an hour), the first team offense was no match for the first team defense. QB Kellen Clemens completed a couple of nice passes TE Dustin Keller and WR Jerricho Cotchery, but most of the time he had to opt for short screen passes, as everyone was covered downfield. QB Mark Sanchez struggled as well. He muffed a snap early in the session, then had two passes in a row broken up by DB James Ihedigbo. The second play resulted in a deflection that landed right in the hands of S Eric Smith.
Finally, on the final series, Sanchez got in sync with his receivers. First, he connected with WR Wallace Wright. Two plays later, on a 2nd and long, the newly signed Jets QB found WR David Clowney - first down! He followed with two more completions to Clowney, and a 17-yard fade left to Wallace Wright for a touchdown. The touchdown pass prompted loud cheers from the bench.
PK Jay Feely closed the session with several fight goal attempts from 40-45 yards - all on target.
