All eyes were on Brett Favre this afternoon at Hofstra when the Gang Green took the field with the recently acquired future Hall of Fame quarterback. The bleachers were completely packed - fans even had to wait in line to get in. They sure weren't disappointed, as Favre took more reps than all the other quarterbacks combined.
Favre, as expected, looked a bit rusty and also seemed to be affected by the heat. He practiced with the first team that had all the starters present, including WR Laveranues Coles who was back after missing a few days and the first preseason game. TE Chris Baker and rookie TE Dustin Keller were used together in the two tight end formation, while Favre's old buddy TE Bubba Franks did not suit up and spent most of the practice session riding a bicycle. Baker started poorly, dropping two passes thrown by Favre. Keller also had at least one drop. As the session progressed though, Baker picked up the pace and caught two 15-20 yard passes from Favre. WR Jerricho Cotchery also dropped an easy reception, but then caught a 30-yard pass from Favre - longest completion of the day. There was another long attempt intended for Cotchery but it was overthrown by about 5 yards.
Backup QB Brett Ratliff continued to impress with his poise and precise passing. He looked sharp throughout the session, completing one pass after another, including a long one to his favorite target WR David Clowney. QB Kellen Clemens, on the other hand, disappointed once again. If these trends continue, it should not be a surprise if Ratliff becomes Favre's backup and not Clemens.
Another starter who was also back on the field after a long absence is MLB David Harris. He was finally back in uniform and participated in all team drills. DE Shaun Ellis and CB Justin Miller both missed this practice session. Although Ellis did come out close to session\'s end and exercised with the conditioning coach. Miller's place in the starting lineup was taken by CB David Barrett. LB Matt Chatham intercepted one of Favre's passes. CB Darrelle Revis dropped a punt and had to run a lap around the field.
The Jets will have two practice sessions tomorrow - at 8:45am and 5:45pm.
