ESPN reports that the New York Jets have guaranteed the $11M remaining on the final two years of WR Laveranues Coles' contract. Coles had been seeking a contract extension, but guaranteeing the remaining two years would appear to be a compromise between the team and Coles. Coles, 30, appeared in 12 games last season, catching 55 passes for 646 yards with 6 touchdowns. He caught 91 passes for 1,098 yards in 2006.
The Gang Green continue talking to various college prospects. They are scheduled to meet with OT Nate Garner from Arkansas. Garner, 6'6", 325lbs, is expected to be drafted in later rounds or might be available as an undrafted free agent.
Also, the Jets had a private workout with QB Chad Henne from the University of Michigan. Henne is one of the best quarterbacks in the Draft and projected to be drafted somewhere in the second round.
The team has also spoken with WR Steve Johnson from the University of Kentucky. Johnson, 6'2", 210lbs, is also projected as a late round pick, most likely 6th or 7th round.
