Jets Regular Season

Martin Makes History

On the day when he ran for 174 yards, his best game of the season, Jets RB Curtis Martin also became the second player in NFL history to gain over 1000 rushing yards in the first nine seasons of his career. Although the Jets failed to score any touchdowns, they still came out with a 6-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. This was only the second Jets' win over the Steelers in 16 regular season meetings between these two teams.

Neither team was able to show anything offensively on this snowy, windy day in the Meadowlands. QB Chad Pennington was 15 of 25 for 144 yards, 0 touchdowns, 0 interceptions. PK Doug Brien was a perfect 2 for 2 on field goals, giving the Jets the only 6 points of the game. Pittsburgh's PK Jeff Reed also had two field goal opportunities but missed both of them, including an easy 20-yarder.

The Jets defense failed to generate any turnovers but they were good enough to hold the Steelers under 100 yards on the ground and limit QB Tommy Maddox to only 16 of 38 for 137 yards. LB Jason Glenn, who started in place of injured LB Sam Cowart, recorded 8 tackles (4 solo). FS Tyrone Carter led the Jets with 10 tackles (6 solo). CB Ray Mickens had 4 pass defenses and was also close to making a couple of interceptions.

The New York Jets improved to 6-8 and are now tied with the Buffalo Bills for the 3rd place in the AFC East. On Saturday the Jets will take on the New England Patriots who have won their last 10 games and already clinched the division title.
