Well, it's happening for the third year in a row. We're witnessing yet another slow start, which seems to be a routine for the Herman Edwards regime. The Miami Dolphins came to the Meadowlands and ran over the unprepared Jets, gaining almost 200 rushing yards on the way to a 21-10 win. RB Ricky Williams ran for 125 yards on 34 carries and scored one touchdown. QB Jay Fiedler had 35 rushing yards, which exceeded the total Jets production on the ground (21 yards).
QB Vinny Testaverde and the wide receivers were the only bright spots on this Jets team. Testaverde passed for 373 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT. WR Santana Moss caught 5 passes for a total of 142 yards, including a 32-yard touchdown reception.
For the second week in a row the running game never got going. RB Curtis Martin rushed for only 32 yards on 10 carries. Most of the time the offensive line was unable to open any holes, and even when running space did exist, Curtis Martin couldn't find it.
The defense looked simply pathetic. No pressure on the quarterback, poor tackling, and awful pass coverage. CB Donnie Abraham was doing a pretty good job until he was injured and replaced by CB Ray Mickens. The latter was simply outclassed by WR Chris Chambers - 4 receptions for 91 yards.
Rookie DT DeWayne Robertson did not see much action, as he was replaced by DT Chester McGlockton for the most part of the game. McGlockton recorded 4 tackles and also recovered a fumble caused by LB Mo Lewis.
Recently signed RB/KR Michael Bates did not made any impact on special teams, in fact he was guilty of a very costly offside penalty that resulted in a crucial Miami 1st down.
Next week the Jets will take on the New England Patriots in another divisional matchup. Are we looking at a 0-3 start? It's quite a possibility if the Jets coaching stuff does not make any adjustments...
